Currently, Obama has the advantage: 273 electoral votes to 265. This assumes that the states end up going for the candidate that currently leads in the polls, even if the lead is slight. Though Obama leads in the electoral polling results, McCain actually leads in the national average, though only slightly: 47% to 45%.
In 7 of the swing states, the candidates are within 2.6% of each other.
The extremely heartening news for the McCain camp must be that Michigan is now in play. Obama leads there only by 2 points, a much thinner margin than before the conventions.
