Syrians Seek Russian Missles

The Syrians are in Moscow, ready to ink a deal to get missiles and create a defense pact.

The potential missiles that Russia could deploy there - the Iskander - are no joke.

I wonder how many recall that it was Soviet Russia that that was the catalyst for the 6-Day War in 1967, between Israel and an alliance of Arab states. Michael Oren wrote an incredibly detailed and engrossing book about it.
The Soviets lied to Syria and the world about a massive Israeli build up of troops that didn't exist.

This is why the Georgian-Russian conflict is so critical and why we report on it often. Russia apparently will go to almost any lengths to assert itself as a major world power - and their actions so far are completely analogous to Cold War behavior. This has major implications for what kind of world we're going to live in in the future.
